*full view please*

So, yay, I got myself to do another. This is Hershey, a little gelding my university leased from a summer camp. He was sent back to camp ::annoyed little cough:: Anyway, he's a really nifty color - chocolate (liver chestnut with cream mane & tail). QH/Morgan cross. He was young and more than a little hyperactive. Sorta like Reggie - immature.

I feel like it's missing something, but don't know what. I'm stumped on background ideas.
Most pleased with his forelock and ears - this is reduced in size by a *ton* and it's lost a lot of the detail, but there are hundreds and hundreds of individual brushstrokes in his hair. I seriously think my hand is damaged... ::rubs wrist:: and I'm pleased with the effect of light. I chose this photo to draw from because his tail looked cool.
His muzzle ended up too small/narrow, which is my least fav part. I stopped referring to my sketch and it just happened.

photoshop, about 5 hours work.

Thanks :) Original, full size is 3000 x 2400 pixels at 300 pixels/inch. My computer struggles slightly from time to time at this size, and it gets worse the bigger I go :( Someday, my dream is to get something printed out in a very large size to see how it would look...

Here's a detail of Hershey's forelock at full res [link]

v ncie, im curious, did you use a round brush with low flow for the pic? im probably wrong but can ya tell me what brush and flow you used ? :D
:iconmightysquirrel:
I pretty much do 98% of every picture in the same brush - the round, hard edged brush in photoshop. The very first one in the drop down menu. I just vary the size. And it's always at 100% flow. I don't think I've ever paid any attention to the flow thingy... not quite sure what the benefits are. I'm not too good with brush experimentation... I'm dying to try out a different program, like open canvas or corel painter, but I only have corel painter and I can't get it to cooperate with my tablet so I've pretty much abandoned it :P

Goodness this is an incredibly beautiful painting. I absolutely love the sun rays you have painted through the mane, and the colors are striking. Great work my friend!
